The best places to find inspiration as a comms, marketing, PR, or advertising professional

It can be difficult to keep on top of the latest industry trends, and to find ideas to inspire your own content—but never fear! We’ve rounded up a handful of our favourite international resources focusing on media, marketing, and communications, to give you a virtual library for future inspiration.

The Drum (International)

The Drum is “a global media platform and the biggest marketing website in Europe”. It’s also possible to filter by location; for example, we enjoy the Asia-Pacific and Singapore pages. It covers the “latest marketing and advertising news…including insights and opinions”. Well worth a visit!

Mumbrella (Asia)

As the quirky name suggests, Mumbrella is “a discussion of everything under Asia’s media and marketing umbrella”—and it does it well. Key categories are News, Opinion, and a witty personality-laden article series dubbed “Dr Mumbo”, which takes a skeptical and objective look at developments in the industry. They also host Mumbrella360, one of the biggest media and marketing conferences in multiple locations across Asia, featuring everything from internationally-renowned speakers to exhibitions, masterclasses, and networking opportunities.

The British Chamber of Commerce — Orient (Singapore)

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of the British Chamber of Commerce events (BritCham) regularly held in both Hong Kong and Singapore, where our two offices are based. BritCham Singapore also publish an official magazine named Orient, which focuses on networking and creating opportunities for businesses to work together. Their features often take an international perspective, with a particular relevance for Asia (and Singapore). Our Principal Director, Freya, recently contributed an article about jargon to Orient, which you can read here.

LinkedIn and LinkedIn Pulse (International)

This one is more general, but LinkedIn and LinkedIn Pulse is a fantastic way to keep track of what’s happening both with your own personal connections and in your industry as a  whole. Try starting at the ‘Discover’ page and filtering by interest to find content that is relevant for you.

Business Insider (International)

Business Insider is a “business news site with deep financial, media, tech, and other industry verticals” and has many international editions, covering Australia, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, China, and the UK. While not all content will be useful or relevant, it is a good resource to use to get a broad overview of what’s happening in the world (especially in finance and tech—the sister site, Markets Insider, offers updates on stocks and shares and real-time markets data).

PR Week (International)

The self-proclaimed “first for public relations & communications news, analysis, features & PR jobs”, the UK-based PR Week covers pretty much everything you could need to know within public relations and comms. It covers the UK, US, and Asia, and has a focus on PR and advertising. It’s a great resource to keep up-to-date on what’s happening within the English-speaking business world.

Marketing magazine & Marketing Daily (Asia)

If marketing is more your field, the aptly-titled Marketing magazine from Lighthouse Independent Media is a wonderful resource for anyone in the Asia-Pacific region. “Marketing magazine is Asia’s leading source of advertising, marketing and media intelligence,” the site says, “with editions in Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia (Advertising+Marketing Malaysia)…the magazine reaches out to more advertising and marketing professionals in [these locations] than any other”. It’s also great for events, networking meet-ups, and job vacancies within the region. The Marketing Daily e-newsletter goes out every workday to subscribers with updates and relevant news, while the print issue of Marketing magazine goes out monthly and the website is updated regularly.
